About Our Playgroup Program

Melbourne Muslimahs launched a weekly mother-and-child playgroup in January 2024, designed to support Muslim women and their children (aged 0-5 years). The playgroup aims to create a nurturing space for both mothers and children to connect and thrive.

The initiative was founded by Melbourne Muslimahs co-founder Jedda Van Rooyen, who holds a Bachelor of Education and brings over 17 years of experience in the early childhood sector. Joining her is our Playgroup Facilitator and board member, Shelby Carr, a passionate mother of two who is deeply committed to creating valuable programs for mothers and children in our community.

In 2024, Melbourne Muslimahs also hosted our first pop-up bush playgroup as part of Victoria Health’s ‘This Girl Can’ Week—an event that was met with great success and positive feedback.

Melbourne Muslimahs Commitment to Child Safety

Melbourne Muslimahs is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all children and young people who participate in our activities and programs. We are committed to upholding the Victorian Child Safe Standards and promoting a culture where children’s safety, wellbeing, and voices are valued and respected.

We take a proactive approach to child safety by ensuring appropriate policies, procedures, and practices are in place, supporting the recruitment and suitability of people involved in our organisation, providing clear expectations around respectful behaviour, and responding appropriately to any concerns or disclosures relating to child safety. We encourage children, young people, families, and community members to speak up about safety concerns and are committed to continuous improvement in our child safe practices.

Child Safety Contact

Melbourne Muslimahs welcomes feedback and encourages children, young people, families, and community members to raise any child safety concerns or questions. Our Child Safety Contact is available to listen, support, and respond to concerns in line with our child safe policies and procedures.
